Bicycles for Humanity was started in September 2005 as the catalyst to enable concerned groups to raise funds and collect bicycles to send to partners in developing countries.

To this end Bicycles for Humanity developed the methodologies and logistics to collect bicycles in developed countries and to transport them to under developed countries, and the methodologies and logistics to receive the bicycles in those countries and to train the local population to maintain and distribute the bicycles.

BICYCLES FOR HUMANITY INC., licenses those methodologies and collaterals to non profit organizations free of charge and to for profit organizations and not for profit organizations controlled by for profit organizations for a fee. Fees collected are used to further the program.

The methodologies and logistics of the Bicycle Empowerment Center, commonly referred to as a B.E.C. or BEC, are the property of BICYCLES FOR HUMANITY INC., and the name, Bicycle Empowerment Center is a trademark of BICYCLES FOR HUMANITY INC
