Welcome!
Just a quick update on the progress of B4H. Thanks to the hard work of Pat Montani in Whistler and Michael Linke in Wierhook, Namibia, the progress of Cambridge's B4H chapter is moving forward and things are looking very good. I will be ordering the container this week. The container is purchased outright and will be used as a secure bicycle repair shop and distribution centre upon its arrival in Namibia.
Bicycle collection will be done on October 19th and 20th at Southwood Secondary School. The container will be closed, sealed and picked up on October 20. It will leave Toronto the following week and it will arrive about 65 days later in Walvis Bay, Namibia, via Halifax, Barcelona and Durban. We have a confirmed partner and facility ready to accept our container from Cambridge and ensure the judicious distribution of the bikes.
It is an honour to be part of this wonderful cross-Canada initiative that is still in its infant stages. It has been personally rewarding watching the partnering evolve among teachers, students, churches, corporations and humanitarian workers in Africa.
The container, delivery and shipping companies all have to receive payment well in advance of the procurement of their goods and services. As well, there will be a delay of at least four weeks for Living Positive Resource Centre to receive donations and issue cheques to the various companies. Working things backwards, we should have funding in place by no later than September 7 to ensure that we can put this thing together.
I hope we can count on you for your financial support. We need about $9,000 by September 7 to purchase and ship Cambridge's first container. Cheques can be made payable to "Living Positive Resource Centre" ref: Bicycles for Humanity. Tax receipts will be issued for donations of $25 or more. This takes two or three weeks to process. Cheques can be mailed to:
