Status Update – January 2, 2008
On December 29th, a group which included Rodd, Keenan, Steve Cox, Terry Granger, Todd Granger, Austin Andres, Henry Pace and myself (Josh) were able to pick up over 175 bikes from two key local organizations. So we're off to a fine start with about 200 more bikes to go. We have begun to forge relationships with the Boulder County Aids project, Echostar, USPS as well as CU Boulder. Our key is to find not only our first 400 bikes but identify consistent bike and funding sources for the future. See below for a few action shots.
Bike Fix Event – Jan 27, 2008
With nearly 200 bikes in hand, we are hosting our first bike fix event to do a quick refurbs of bikes needing a bit of TLC. Our key here is to make sure the bikes are in good working order and prepped for shipment. It will be at Rodd's house in Broomfield and interested parties should email josh at joshpace@sbcglobal.net See you there!
Wine & Cheese Update – November 2007
Our first fund raiser was a success and a huge thanks to all those who attended. We had over 40 people to the Gates family home to enjoy the finest wines and cheeses and talk a little about Bicycles for Humanity Colorado. We gave a brief presentation, followed by a Q&A session where the guests were engaged. We raised over $2,200 and sourced 15-20 bikes during the evening with surely more to come. It was an exciting time for Rodd, Keenan and I and we look forward to providing updates on our progress.
In addition, we received our first corporate grant from Webroot Software of $4,000. This will go a long way towards our initial funding goals for our first shipment to Namibia.
Stay tuned for more events in the near future. josh
