Hi Montreal!

Give your old bicycle another life!

Right now, Bicycles for Humanity - Montreal is raising funds to send our first shipping container of approximately 350 'lightly used' mountain bikes to Namibia where they will benefit a community for many years to come.

Your bike, once given to B4H Montreal, will be sent to Namibia where our partner BEN Namibia (B.icycle E.mpowerment N.etwork Namibia) receives it. Upon arrival, the shipping container is converted into a Bicycle Empowerment Center (BEC) - a working bike shop. The BEN team provides skills training and sustainable community business opportunities arise. A percentage of the bicycles will be distributed to health care providers, school children and women who often need to travel great distances in order to treat the sick, to receive a basic education or to simply access food and water. Your bicycle will definitely change a life!

Our goal is to send the inaugural container of bicycles to Namibia in the fall of 2009. We need your help to make this happen.

We are currently working towards raising $9000 in order to finance the land and shipping costs of getting this container to Africa. Donations are greatly appreciated and can be made through PayPal. The cost of sending one bicycle is approximately $25.

The Montreal chapter members are currently crafting some fine summer events in order to increase awareness, participation and funds. Among these events is a full-day, supported cycling event in and around the Montreal are, with a lunch and pint in the mix. Please stay tuned here for more details.

If you are interested in hosting a fundraising event for Bicycles-for-Humanity Montreal, please contact us and we will provide whatever support we can.

Here are our 2009 Bicycle Collection Dates:

Saturday, October 4th, 2009 ~ 9 AM - 5 PM

Should you be unable to get to us on these dates and you would like to give us your bike...please contact us and we will find a way to meet with you.

The collection dates will be hosted by My Bicyclette - a local bike shop located directly on the Lachine Canal bicycle path...steps south of the Atwater Market. Access to this drop point can be made from Atwater Market or along St. Patrick Street. My Bicyclette has agreed to let us 'headquarter' ourselves from their location and has generously donated storage space, bike tools, mechanical expertise and bike shop visibility to help us towards our goal.

Thank-you to all of you who have already brought your bicycles to us. If you would like to drop-off a donation bicycle ahead of time - please feel free to come by "My Bicyclette" - just call ahead if it's a rainy day. (514.998.6252). Pick-up of bicycles can be arranged for 3 or more bicycles. Please contact us at montreal@bicycles-for-humanity.org
