Bicycle Collection

We can accept the following donations:

Bikes - Mountain bikes only:

* Adult and Youth (24" and 26") MOUNTAIN bikes in working condition, with no major rust on the frame (flat tires is ok)

* This year, the bikes will be delivered to rural communities in northern Namibia, where there are no paved roads. As such, we are not able to accept other types of bikes except those with wide, knobby tires for traction.

    Spare bike parts in good condition:

    * wheels, tires and tubes for mountain bikes

    * cranks

    * chains

    * gear cassettes / clusters / cogs

    * seats

    Bike Tools:

    * cone spanners/wrenches

    * chain tools

    * crank extractors

    * bench vices

    * hacksaw and extra blades

    Bike accessories:

    * bells, reflectors

    * locks

    * pumps

    * patch kits

    Other:

    * knapsacks/backpacks - these are extremely useful and can be packed easily among the bikes

    * Canadian Tire money - helps to purchase supplies and tools

    * Monetary donations to help fund the transportation costs of the bikes - every dollar makes a difference!

    * If there is an item you believe to be useful, please contact us at: ottawa@bicycles-for-humanity.org prior to bringing it to the donation site

    We cannot accept the following:

    no bikes other than mountain bikes (this is specific to the 2009 campaign. We may be able to accept other bikes in the future depending on the destination community's need)

    * no small children's bikes, no tricycles

    * no frames without wheels

    * no bikes with major rust on the frame

    * no old broken/ worn tools and imperial sized spanners/wrenches

    * no large child carriers (space constraint)
