Ombasikela! African Percussion Rhythms

"Ombasikela!" means "Bicycle!" in Oshiwambo language, spoken in Namibia...and bicycles are what we intend to deliver with the funds raised from this fun event!

Saturday, May 30th, 2009 at the Mercury Lounge
7:30pm, tickets $10

Coming together for this special event Dr. Lee and the DSC (Djembe Student Collective) will deliver powerful djembe rhythms and positive vibes. Proceeds from ticket sales go to Bicycles for Humanity.

Dr Lee is a percussion-based musician and teacher. He creates sounds, inspired by West African rhythms fused with modern electronic beats, for dance performances, art installations and music projects.

In 2003 Dr. Lee released his first CD, Orange Galaxy. He traveled to Guinea, West Africa in 2004 to study djembe drumming with highly respected djembe master, Aboubacar Fatouabou Camara.

Dr. Lee's credits include collaborating with The Souljazz Orchestra, Antizario, the Peter Hum Jazz Ensemble and performing for Cirque du Soleil. He has been leading the drum circle at the Westfest Tam Tam in since 2006. "The Bowling Song" from Orange Galaxy was featured on CBC Television's "The Greatest Canadian Invention".

Please join us on what promises to be a great evening of tribal rhythms and support the Bicycles for Humanity initiative!
