Tsumeb BEC

TOV is a community-based organization in Tsumeb that provides physical, emotional and educational support to school age children who are orphaned or in other ways vulnerable as a direct result of HIV/AIDS. The organisation is based in Nomtsoub, which is the former black township area of Tsumeb.

TOV's activities focus on income generation activities and support for children. Income generating projects include a preschool, day care (after school care and support), computer training, income generation projects for community members and the Evergreen Farming Project. Activities to support the children include a daily feeding programme, teaching of life skills programmes and the provision of school fees, uniforms, school materials and clothing.

In February 2007, TOV launched their Bicycle Empowerment Centre with a container and bikes collected by students of Ridgeview Elementary School and Rockridge Secondary School, shipped from Vancouver, with support from Bicycles for Humanity.

With their BEC, TOV have been able to improve the effectiveness of their projects by providing bicycles as transport for the children. It has also created income generation opportunities in the community by providing training in bicycle mechanic skills and an opportunity to work in the project.

TOV will be receiving a top-up container of bikes from B4H Whistler later in 2008.
